What Qualifies as Oversized?

A pallet is classified as oversized when it exceeds the dimensions, height or weight limits of our standard full pallet service. Here's where the line falls.

Wider or Longer

Any pallet with a footprint larger than 1200×1000mm. This includes long pallets (e.g. 2400×800mm for beams or pipes) and wide pallets for industrial equipment.

Taller Than 1800mm

Items that exceed 1800mm total height (including the pallet). Tall machinery, cabinets, racking systems and display units often fall into this category.

Heavier Than 1,000 kg

Consignments weighing between 1,000 kg and 1,200 kg require oversized classification. Heavy castings, stone slabs, steel fabrications and industrial machinery are typical examples.

Oversized items need extra care in packaging. These requirements help ensure your goods travel safely through our network.

Pallet Requirements

  • Use a heavy-duty pallet rated for the weight of your goods
  • For long items, ensure the pallet extends the full length of the load
  • Nothing should overhang the pallet edges
  • Pallet must have fork entry points for handling

Securing the Load

  • Bolt or strap heavy machinery directly to the pallet
  • Use ratchet straps for items that can't be stretch-wrapped
  • Timber bracing or crating recommended for fragile or high-value items

Through our standard network, we handle pallets up to 2400×1200mm, 2200mm total height and 1200 kg. For anything larger, we arrange specialist transport including flatbed lorries, hiab cranes and low-loaders. Contact our team for a bespoke quote on exceptional items.

For oversized pallets under 500 kg, a pump truck can usually manage. For heavier items, forklift access is highly recommended at both ends. If you're delivering to a residential address or site without loading equipment, let us know at booking and we'll arrange a tail-lift vehicle, though weight limits apply.

Yes, next-day service is available for most oversized pallets on the UK mainland. Book by 2pm for same-day collection. Some exceptionally large or heavy items may require an additional working day depending on carrier availability and routing.
